November 13, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman who was burned when she opened the lid on her NuWave Pressure Cooker.
The plaintiff, Angela E., is a resident of Wichita, Kansas, who was burned on December 5, 2022, while using a defective NuWave 6-Quart Nutri-Pot Digital Pressure Cooker (Model Number 33101 C).
According to her lawsuit, she was able to rotate and open the lid on her NuWave Pressure Cooker while it was still under pressure.
This allowed the scalding-hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker” and onto her body, resulting in severe burns.
She blames her injuries on the failure of the safety features, specifically the “Sure-Lock® Safety System” that NuWave advertised to keep consumers safe while using the pressure cooker.
Due to these injuries, her lawsuit claims that she has “incurred significant and painful bodily injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished enjoyment of life.”
She claims that NuWave knew (or should have known) about these defects, but put profit ahead of safety by continuing to sell the pressure cookers, failing to warn consumers of the serious risks, and failing to recall the “dangerously defective pressure cookers regardless of the risk of significant injuries,” her lawsuit claims.
Her lawsuit was filed against NuWave LLC on October 31, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) — Case Number 1:24-cv-11220.
