UPDATE: 18 States Fight Unfair Pressure Cooker Class Action Settlement
July 2018 — Arizona is leading a bipartisan 18-state coalition in challenging an unfair class action settlement for Tristar Power Pressure Cookers.
Under the proposed settlement, 3 million consumers will lose their ability to file lawsuits against Tristar — including any potential injury lawsuits — and class action attorneys will get $2.5 million in cash.
Over 99% of the 3 million consumers will get nothing from the settlement, while only 1% will get a $5 coupon that is only good for 90 days, and can only be used for a discount for three Tristar products.
The class action lawsuit alleges that the Tristar Power Pressure Cooker XL was defective because it could explode and cause injuries.
Arizona Attorney General Brnovich asked the court to recognize that the settlement is unjust because it diverts all the cash to the lawyers while leaving consumers with only a few highly restrictive coupons.

Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Proposal
Anyone who bought a Power Pressure Cooker between March 1, 2013 and January 19, 2018 may be eligible for compensation as part of a class action lawsuit settlement with Tristar Products Inc.
The lawsuit claims that certain models of Tristar pressure cookers may have defects, including
- 1) suddenly releasing steam while being opened
- 2) the lid may be removed while still under pressure
- 3) the pressure relief valve may inaccurately indicate pressure levels
- 4) a faulty gasket may allow the lid to open despite pressure build up
- 5) the unit may not seal properly
- 6) the pressure cooker can develop pressure when the lid is partially or improperly closed
People who join the class action settlement and submit a claim form will be eligible for $72.50 credit redeemable towards one of the following products, subject to availability and possible substitution:
- 1) Power Cooker, a 10 qt. pressure cooker – Model No. PC-WAL4
- 2) Power Air Fryer XL, a 5.3 qt. air fryer – Model No. AF-530
- 3) Copper Chef XL Precision Induction Cooktop Set, consisting of induction cooktop, 11″ deep dish casserole pan with glass lid, fry basket, steam rack, 10″ round pan with glass lid, and recipe book.
You could be eligible to join the settlement if you purchased any of the following models of pressure cookers:
