January 16, 2026 — A lawsuit has been filed against Amazon by a woman who was burned by a Mueller Pressure Cooker that exploded without warning.
The lawsuit was filed by Chung T. N., a woman from Virginia who was burned on February 17, 2024 when the lid opened on her pressure cooker while the unit was pressurized.
Amazon is a major retailer of pressure cookers, including the Mueller UltraPot 6-Quart Pressure Cooker. The product is also advertised as the “Instant Crock 10-in-1 Pot,” a multi-cooker with multiple functions.
Her lawsuit blames this incident on the “pressure cooker’s defective interlock and non-compliance with industry standards, specifically UL 136 Sections 9 and 10,” according to the lawsuit.
The interlock is a safety mechanism that is supposed to prevent the lid from being opened when the unit is pressurized. However, if the interlock is weak, the lid can be removed with little effort by a user.
The only defendant named in the lawsuit is Amazon.com Inc., a Washington corporation.
The plaintiff is demanding judgement against Amazon, as well as all costs of her lawsuit and interest, including damages to compensate her for injuries and suffering as a result of using the pressure cooker.
The lawsuit was filed on January 15, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington (Seattle) — Case Number 2:26-cv-00136.
