December 17, 2025 — A man from Missouri who was burned when his now-recalled Crux® Pressure Cooker exploded has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, Sensio Inc.
The plaintiff, James H., is a resident of Columbia, Missouri, who was burned by a defective Crux® 8-Quart Electric Pressure Cooker (Model No. M-60B23G) that was sold by Sensio Inc. and Crux Kitchen LLC.
The incident occurred in December 2020. According to his lawsuit, he was using the pressure cooker to make food at his home when the lid unexpectedly blew off the pot, ejecting scalding-hot food and liquid.
He suffered extremely painful and disfiguring burn injuries to his face, torso, and arms, which resulted in permanent scarring.
His lawsuit accuses the manufacturer, Sensio Inc., of failing to issue a timely recall and putting “profits ahead of safety” by continuing to sell pressure cookers with dangerously defective safety mechanisms.
He specifically claims that a safety feature called the “auto-locking lid” failed to keep the lid locked when the unit was still pressurized.
Several years after he was injured, Sensio recalled about 860,000 pressure cookers, including the model that caused his burn injuries. The recalled pressure cookers were sold under several brand-names, including Crux, Cooks, Bella, and Bella Pro Series.
According to the recall, the lid can unlock and be removed during use, which may cause the hot contents to splash out. There were also “61 burn injuries, some of which involved 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns.”
The lawsuit was filed on December 1, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri (Northern Division) — Case Number 2:25-cv-04271-WJE.
