February 9, 2026 — A lawsuit has been filed against Walmart by a woman from Illinois who was burned by a Farberware Pressure Cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by Taylor M., a woman who was burned in January 2024 while using a Farberware 7-in-1 Digital Programmable 6-Quart Pressure Cooker (Model No. WM-CS6004W) from Walmart.
She accuses Walmart of selling a pressure cooker that was defectively designed and unreasonably dangerous for its intended use. According to her lawsuit:
“The pressure cookers possess defects that make them unreasonably dangerous for their intended use by consumers because the lid can be rotated and opened while the unit remains pressurized.”
On or about January 20, 2024, she was using the pressure cooker normally when the lid “suddenly and unexpectedly” exploded off the pot, spewing scalding-hot food and liquid onto her body.
Her lawsuit claims that the “safety features” failed to actually prevent the lid from opening when the pressure cooker was still pressurized.
The lawsuit also specifically quotes statements in the Owner’s Manual for the product, such as:
“Lid (22): Mechanical safety feature that locks that lid in place with the inner ring, once enough pressure builds up in the appliance. Lid can only be removed once pressure level lowers to required levels.”
She is seeking compensation for her painful bodily injuries, medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, diminished enjoyment of life, and other damages.
Her lawsuit was filed against Walmart Inc. on January 13, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois (Urbana Division) — Case Number 2:26-cv-02019-CSB-EIL.
