December 14, 2022 — Tabletops Unlimited Inc. has been sued by a woman who was severely burned by hot food that blew out of her pressure cooker.
The plaintiff is a woman from Euless, Texas, who claims that her Philippe Richard Pressure Cooker (Model Number YPC 2055C) is dangerous and defective.
The problem is that the lid can be rotated and opened while there is still pressure inside the pot, making the products “unreasonably dangerous for their intended use.”
She claims that she suffered “severe, disfiguring burns” to her face, chest, and all four extremities as a result of hot food that exploded out of her Philippe Richard Pressure Cooker.
According to the complaint:
“The pressure cooker’s lid unexpectedly and suddenly blew off the pot in an explosive manner.”
She also accuses the manufacturer of failing to recall the pressure cooker or redesign it with safety features to prevent burn injuries.
The lawsuit was filed against Tabletops Unlimited Inc. on November 28, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California — Case 2:22-cv-08622.
