May 28, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed by a woman from Maryland who claims that she was severely burned by a defective NuWave Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by Jaclyn R., a woman who allegedly suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” as a result of opening the lid on her pressure cooker while it was still pressurized.
The case involved a NuWave Nutri-Pot 6-Quart Digital Pressure Cooker (Model Number 33101), which was advertised to have a “Sure-Lock Safety System” that locks the lid until it is safe to open.
Instead, she claims that she was able to easily twist open the lid when the unit was still pressurized.
According to the lawsuit, when she opened the lid, it caused the “scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker and onto Plaintiff … which resulted in significant and painful bodily injuries.”
She accuses the manufacturer, NuWave LLC, of failing to recall or redesign the pressure cooker.
She is seeking compensation for her physical and mental pain and anguish, bodily injuries, diminished enjoyment of life, and more.
The lawsuit was filed on October 26, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) — Case Number 1:23-cv-15348.
