June 20, 2025 — A woman who was burned when the lid suddenly blew off her stovetop Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
The plaintiff, Martha G., is a resident of Ohio who claims that she was burned by a defective Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker that she purchased from an “independent distributor” for Hy Cite Enterprises.
According to her lawsuit, in July 2023 she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” when the lid suddenly blew off the pot.
The incident involved a Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker, which is a stovetop pressure cooker that is designed with a pot that can be heated on a traditional cooktop, along with a locking lid to trap built-up pressure. This is advertised to cook food faster and more efficiently.
Instead, she called the pressure cooker “dangerously defective” and unsafe for its intended use by consumers.
Her lawsuit blames her burn injuries on the “pressure cooker’s lid suddenly and unexpectedly ejecting off the pressure cooker’s pot,” which occurred because the safety features failed to lock the lid.
The sudden release of built-up pressure also ejected the scalding-hot food and liquid onto her body, resulting in severe burns. Her lawsuit is seeking compensation for her painful injuries, medical bills, and more.
Her injuries involved a Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker (Model No.: CO1258), which was manufactured by Hy Cite Enterprises, LLC.
The lawsuit was filed on May 21, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin — Case: 3:25-cv-00420.
