September 23, 2025 — Just days after her lawsuit was filed, a woman who was burned by a Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker has reached a settlement with the manufacturers.
The lawsuit was filed on September 16, 2025 by a woman from Michigan who accused Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands of selling defective Crock-Pot Pressure Cookers.
The settlement notice was filed just a week later, on September 23, announcing that the “parties have successfully negotiated a settlement agreement” and would dismiss the case within 60 days.
Terms and details of the settlement were not disclosed publicly.
However, it may be that Sunbeam and Newell are motivated to resolve lawsuits involving Crock-Pot Pressure Cookers to avoid jury verdicts.
Last year, the companies were hit by a $55 million jury award to a woman who was burned by a Crock-Pot. The verdict was reduced to $8.8 million and Sunbeam and Newell are still fighting to overturn it.
In November 2020, Sunbeam and Newell recalled nearly 1 million Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers (Model SCCPPC600-V1) after 119 reports of lid detachment when the unit was pressurized. At least 99 burn injuries were reported, ranging from 1st- to 3rd-degree burns.
The settlement was awarded to Fallon S. K., a woman from Michigan who claims that she was burned in September 2023 when she opened the lid on her Crock-Pot Pressure Cooker while it was pressurized, causing an explosion of scalding-hot food.
Her lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (Atlanta Division) — Case 1:25-cv-05281-MHC.
