September 9, 2025 — A woman from Michigan who was burned by a pressure cooker has filed a lawsuit against Walmart..
The lawsuit was filed by Khalea O., a woman who was injured by a Farberware 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker from Walmart.
On or about October 14, 2022, she was seriously burned as a result of the pressure cooker’s lid suddenly and unexpectedly exploding off the pressure cooker’s pot, “allowing its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker,” her lawsuit explains.
She claims that Walmart knew (or should have known) about these defects in the pressure cooker, but “nevertheless put profit ahead of safety by continuing to sell its pressure cookers to consumers.”
She also accuses Walmart of failing to warn consumers of the risks, and failing to recall these “dangerously defective pressure cookers.”
Her lawsuit specifically claims that the lid of the Farberware Pressure Cooker can be removed when there is built-up pressure, heat and steam still trapped inside the unit.
If the lid is removed or unexpectedly explodes off the pot while it is still pressurized, this can suddenly release the built-up pressure and cause an explosion of burning-hot steam, liquids, and sticky foods.
The lawsuit was filed on August 28, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas — Case 5:25-cv-05179-TLB.
