August 1, 2023 — Instant Brands Inc. has been sued by a woman from California who claims that she was severely burned by an Instant Pot Smart-60 Pressure Cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by Suzette W., a woman from Bakersfield, California, who accuses Instant Brands of selling a defective and “unreasonably dangerous” product.
According to her lawsuit, she suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” in April 2021 as a result of being able to easily open the lid when her Instant Pot Smart-60 still contained built-up pressure.
When she opened the lid, residual pressure trapped within the unit “caused the scalding hot contents to be projected from the unit and into the surrounding area,” her lawsuit states.
She claims that Instant Brands knows about problems with the Instant Pot Smart-60, due to a recall in July 2015 that was announced after several consumers reported suffering electrical shock injuries.
She is seeking compensation for her economic and non-economic damages, including physical and emotional pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life, and more.
The Instant Pot Smart-60 Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on March 29, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) — Case Number 1:23-cv-01964.
