December 16, 2024 — A woman who was burned when she opened the lid on a pressure cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, Tristar Products.
The plaintiff is a woman from Grand Rapids, Michigan, who was burned in December 2020 while using the Emeril Lagasse Pressure Air Fryer Plus (Model #Y6D-AF-36B).
The appliance is a pressure cooker that can also be used as an air fryer. In her lawsuit, she claims that she was injured while using the pressure cooking feature.
Her lawsuit claims that Tristar Products advertised a variety of safety features in the pressure cooker, such as a “safety lid lock,” a “positive pressure mechanism,” and a “lid positioning sensor.”
Despite these features, she claims that she was able to open the lid on her pressure cooker while it was still pressurized, which caused a sudden release of pressure that ejected scalding-hot food and liquid.
Her lawsuit was filed against Tristar Products on December 3, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:24-cv-04354.
