July 30, 2025 — A woman who was burned by a Farberware Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against Walmart.
The lawsuit was filed by Tomica D., a woman form Park Forest, Illinois, who accuses Walmart of selling a defective and “unreasonably dangerous” pressure cooker.
According to her lawsuit, she was seriously burned on August 14, 2023, when the lid suddenly exploded off of her Farberware Pressure Cooker, ejecting scalding-hot food, liquid, and steam onto her body.
Her burn injuries were caused by a Farberware 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker, a product that is licensed and owned by Walmart.
Her lawsuit claims that she was burned as a result of the “lid suddenly and unexpectedly exploding off the pressure cooker’s pot,” which she blames on defective safety features that failed to lock the lid.
The lawsuit includes multiple quotes about safety features in the Owner’s Manual for the Farberware Pressure Cooker.
For example, one statement claims that it had a “large locking lid to prevent the cooker from opening while pressurized.” Another statement claims that it has “important safeguards” to prevent the lid from opening until “the float valve drops down by itself,” according to her lawsuit.
Her lawsuit was filed on July 2, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) — Case Number 1:25-cv-07435.
