July 24, 2025 — SharkNinja has been sued by a woman from Houston who was severely burned on her face, arms, and body when a Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker exploded.
The lawsuit was filed by Krystle J., a resident of Harris County, Texas, who was burned by her Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker in August 2024.
Her lawsuit blames her injuries on defective safety features on the Ninja Foodi Deluxe Tendercrisp Pressure Cooker (Model OP402Q, Serial Number X16KJ202A7R9). According to the complaint:
“Plaintiff attempted to use the Subject Pressure Cooker as instructed when, without warning, during typical use, the Subject Pressure Cooker exploded, causing severe burns to Plaintiff’s face, chest, arms, and upper torso.”
This product was unreasonably dangerous for its intended use, she claims. For example, the User Manual specifically claims the “lid can be opened during use, causing hot contents to escape.”
Instead, she alleges that the lid can open when the unit is still pressurized, resulting in an explosion of boiling hot food and steam.
Her injuries involved an OP400-series model of Ninja Foodi, which have some design features that are similar to the OP300-series products that were recalled in May 2025.
In May 2025, SharkNinja recalled about 1.8 million Ninja Foodi Pressure Cookers after receiving reports of 106 people who were burned, including 50 people who suffered severe burns.
Her lawsuit was filed on July 2, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas (Houston Division) — Case 4:25-cv-03084.
