January 24, 2025 — Sunbeam Products and Newell Brands have been sued by a man who was burned by a Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by Jason M., a man from Black Eagle, Montana, who was burned when he opened the lid on a Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-Cooker (Model Number CCPPC100-V1) in January 2022.
His lawsuit alleges that he was burned as a result of defective safety features, which failed to lock the lid and prevent him from opening the Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker until all of the pressure was safely released.
When he opened the lid, built-up pressure suddenly burst out of the pot and ejected scalding-hot food and liquid onto his body, resulting in severe burn injuries.
His burn injuries involved a Crock-Pot Express Multi-Cooker with a 10-Quart Capacity, but a similar product with only a 6-Quart capacity was recalled after dozens of people were severely burned.
The recall was announced in November 2020 after Sunbeam Products received 99 reports of people who were burned by the Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cooker, including 119 reports of lid detachment during use.
The Crock-Pot Multi-Cooker Lawsuit was filed on January 13, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana — Case 1:25-cv-00009-TJC.
